Linux gaming sentiment
Linux gaming has had a major surge in popularity as of late.
Personally, I’m absolutely sick of how Windows has not improved a simple thing about the user experience for gamers. As I get older, I find myself wanting more of a console-style experience where I can:
- Plug in a machine to my TV
- Turn it on
- Grab a controller (with an optional keyboard/mouse but not required)
- NOT type in a username/password with a keyboard
- Select a game
- Play a game
Unfortunately, it’s very clear to me that Microsoft simply has no taste when it comes to consumer products. I respect what Satya Nadella has done for the enterprise, software, and open-source ecosystems. However, consumer entertainment products are a completely different beast that requires more than just great engineering; it requires taste.
I just don’t believe that anyone at Microsoft, and especially the Windows team, has that.
So I’m glad to see Valve preparing their big move to end PC gaming’s dependence on Windows. I think we’re only one more Steam OS/Steam Deck iteration and one massive Windows mishap away from there being a massive tidal wave away from Windows gaming to Linux gaming.
